Dreamers
In 1994, twenty-five-year-old Yuyi Morales traveled from her home in Yelapa, Mexico, to the San Francisco Bay Area with her two-month-old son, Kelly, in order to secure permanent residency in this country. Her passage was not easy, and she spoke no English whatsoever. But due in large measure to help and guidance provided by area children's librarians, she learned English the same way her young son learned to read: through the picture books they shared together. In spare, lyrical verse and with the vibrant images for which she has become legendary, Yuyi has created a lasting testament to the journeys, both physical and metaphorical, that she and Kelly have taken together in the intervening years. Beautiful and powerful at any time-but given particular urgency as the status of our own Dreamers becomes uncertain-this is a story that is both topical and timeless.

Circle
Jeannie Baker's latest picture book, Circle, comes to life in this remarkable travelling exhibition. Each year, Bar-tailed Godwits (Limosa lapponica baueri) undertake the longest unbroken migration of any animal when they fly from their breeding grounds in Alaska to Australia and New Zealand. They follow invisible pathways in the sky, which they have followed for thousands of years. In order to create Circle, Jeannie journeyed across the globe to observe Godwits – to the wild, remote landscapes of Alaska and then to China and South Korea. Her work conveys the sheer wonder of this giant migratory ‘circle of life’, but also reminds us to reflect on the importance of the world’s remaining wetlands. The combination of exquisitely detailed and textured collages with the fascinating science of our natural world has created an exhibition celebrating the Godwit’s remarkable flight as it comes full circle.

Life on Mars
In this sneaky, silly picture book for fans of Oliver Jeffers and Jon Klassen, an intrepid—but not so clever—space explorer is certain he’s found the only living thing on Mars. * “Bursting with quiet wit and gorgeous Martian vistas. Simply masterful.” —Kirkus, starred review * “The humor continues through the very last page. Agee, with his unique and winning view of the world, never talks down to children and always asks readers to slow down and enjoy his take on what they might not otherwise see.” —Horn Book, starred view * “Sure to be a hit with beginning readers and storytime audiences alike.” —School Library Journal, starred review
